If Denver Broncos first-round pick Bo Nix believes he will walk into training camp and win the starting quarterback job easily from Jarrett Stidham, he has another thing coming.

The 2024 NFL Draft set a record for QBs taken in the first 15 picks. Not one, not two, not three but five signal-caller prospects were selected in the top 12 picks of the April event. The fifth and final QB taken was Oregon star Bo Nix by the Denver Broncos and he is expected to get a real shot at being the team’s starter in Week 1.

However, one of the current members of the Broncos quarterback room is not going to go quietly into the night when it comes to the starting QB job. Last season, Jarrett Stidham was thrust into a starting role late in the campaign when head coach Sean Payton and the organization brought the Russell Wilson era to an official end, and he plans to fight to keep that spot despite the love Payton has for his new QB.

“I’ve dealt with this before when I was in New England with Mac Jones,” Stidham told the Denver Broncos website. “It’s a business and I totally understand it, but at the same time, I’m here to compete. I’m not going to just sit down and let someone else walk in here and [just take the role]. I’m going to work my butt off to get the job. I’m super excited about it.”

Stidham is a four-year veteran who was drafted by the Patriots in Round 4 of the 2019 NFL Draft. He’s made four starts during his career and has a record of 1-3. He is certainly not a favorite to win the starting job, and not only will have to compete with Nix but also former New York Jets first-round pick Zach Wilson.

NFL training camps open around the league on July 29.
