Pro Bowl QB interested in joining Bill Belichick with the Atlanta Falcons

It remains to be seen if Bill Belichick will be the new Atlanta Falcons’ head coach. While things seem to be trending in that direction, the Falcons have scheduled a second interview with Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh.

What we do know is that Falcons owner Arthur Blank is going big-game hunting in finding a replacement for the recently-fired Arthur Smith.

That could also potentially include a packaged deal with Belichick and Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins.

The impending free agent talked recently about Belichick, clearly indicating that he would have no issue playing for the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach.

“I’m not going to turn down an opportunity to play with a future Hall of Fame coach, but we’ll have to see where March leads. It’s just a lot of unknowns right now,” Kirk Cousins said earlier this week.

Cousins, 35, suffered a torn Achilles eight games into the 2023 season. He was among the best statistical quarterbacks before going down, throwing for 2,331 yards with 18 touchdowns and just five interceptions.

Atlanta’s primary issue during a 2023 season in which the team won seven games was the quarterback position. Sophomore signal caller Desmond Ridder was completely out of his element (12 TDs, 12 INT in 13 starts). Veteran journeyman Taylor Heinicke is not the answer, either.

Regardless of who the Falcons bring in to be their next head coach, a change at quarterback is obviously going to happen.

That’s where Cousins could come into play. During his six-year run with the Minnesota Vikings, Cousins is averaging nearly 3,900 yards with 29 touchdowns and just nine interceptions. He’d be an obvious upgrade over what the Falcons have thrown out there since former NFL MVP Matt Ryan left the organization following the 2021 season.

As for Belichick, it’s increasingly likely that he’ll be hired by the Falcons. They just conducted a second interview with the all-time great head coach. If that does indeed happen, Bill Belichick will want to bring in his own quarterback. Cousins would certainly make a ton of sense.
