Richard Sherman’s mother confirms he is leaving Seahawks

Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman

Richard Sherman reportedly told his teammates he’s not going to be with them in Seattle for the 2018 NFL season. His teammates took to Twitter with some pretty cryptic tweets suggesting the same. Now, his mother has spoken up, and she’s making it clear Sherman will not be with the Seahawks next season.

The term, “consider the source” is appropriate. We have to believe Sherman’s own mother knows something concrete. Otherwise she wouldn’t have posted something like this.

Seattle will save $11 million against the cap if it releases Sherman this offseason. There were rumblings that he could be dangled as trade bait, but given the fact he just had a second surgery on his Achilles and cannot pass a physical that seems an unlikely scenario.

In all likelihood, this means the Seahawks will release Sherman, who likely wouldn’t sign with another team until later this summer when he’s healthy enough to pass a physical.

Since 2011, Sherman has posted 368 combined tackles, one sack, 32 interceptions and two defensive touchdowns. He’s made four Pro Bowls and three First-Team All-Pro squads, helping Seattle win a Super Bowl along the way.
