Pete Carroll expects Richard Sherman to be ready for training camp after two surgeries

On Thursday, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll confirmed Richard Sherman underwent a second surgery stemming from the Achilles injury that ended his 2017 season. This surgery was expected (to repair bone spurs), and Carroll said Sherman’s recovery is going well.

Sherman will be 30 by the time offseason workouts begin in April. He’s been one of the NFL’s most dominating cornerbacks since bursting onto the scene as a fifth-round pick out of Stanford in 2011. However, his body appears to be breaking down a bit, having suffered a knee injury in 2016 and then missing seven games last season with the ruptured Achilles.

This latest surgery could complicate things for the Seahawks, even if it was expected. The reason for this is that Seattle is said to be potentially thinking about dangling Sherman and safety Earl Thomas as trade bait. So, teams that might be interested in making a move to acquire the cornerback could potentially low-ball Seattle, which tried to trade Sherman last year but couldn’t find a partner.

That said, Carroll expects Sherman to be ready for training camp, despite the two surgeries.
