As an annual contender seeking an NBA championship, the Miami Heat are routinely a team that comes up in any big trade rumors. We’ve seen some of that this summer before Bradley Beal was dealt, and now again with Damian Lillard on the trade block.
Yet, the Heat have yet to land that highly desirable third star to complement Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Why not?
One of the reasons could be an unwillingness to part with one of if not their top trade chips. Lately, we’ve heard plenty of rumors about Tyler Herro being up for grabs, even if the Portland Trail Blazers don’t see him as a good fit on their guard-heavy roster. But just because Herro may be on the trade block, it doesn’t mean Miami is eager to part with the former Sixth Man of the Year.
According to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Heat have only actually put Herro on the trade table in two trade discussions since he joined the team in 2019.
Those trades? They were reportedly back when the Brooklyn Nets were shopping Kevin Durant before he landed with the Phoenix Suns, and now once again, with Lillard available. That’s it. Herro has reportedly never been discussed by Miami in any other trade negotiation.
Clearly, even though they appear willing to part with the 23-year-old scorer, the Heat would only do so if they land a true star talent. Perhaps Lillard is the one who can help pry Herro away from Miami, but where the 20 PPG scorer ends up remains to be seen.
