Mike Tomlin not confident Martavis Bryant will be able to help the team

Martavis Bryant, Dallas Cowboys

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant was a healthy inactive in Sunday night’s win over the Detroit Lions. This all stems from a drama-filled past week in which Bryant called out a teammate on social media, apparently requested a trade and saw himself in head coach Mike Tomlin’s doghouse big time.

Now heading into their Week 9 bye with a 6-2 record, Tomlin doesn’t necessarily feel the need to talk about Bryant anymore. More than that, he’s not confident in the malcontent playing a role for the contending team moving forward on the season.

When asked if he was confident in Bryant helping down the stretch, Tomlin simply responded, “I’m not. We’ll see.”

There’s been reports surfacing around the NFL world that the Steelers might look to trade Bryant prior to Tuesday’s deadline. Tomlin has denied these reports, but they continue to pop up from respected NFL insiders.

If the head coach is not confident Bryant can play a role moving forward, it might be time for Pittsburgh to move on from the receiver altogether. The next 24 hours will be intriguing.
