Mike Tomlin on Martavis Bryant: ‘He’s not available via trade’

Martavis Bryant

The Pittsburgh Steelers might end up dying out on this ledge, but the team is most definitely hunkered in. Following wide receiver Martavis Bryant’s since-deleted Instagram post indicating he wants to be traded, a lot has been made of this situation.

For his part, Bryant doubled down on that statement recently. He indicated that short of extended playing time, he’ll leave the Steelers (more on that here).

But don’t expect Pittsburgh’s brass to make it easy on the enigmatic pass catcher.

Tomlin went on to note that Bryant was “out of bounds” with what he said and ‘the situation will be dealt with.”

Remember, Bryant missed Monday’s practice after “calling in sick.” It’s just the continuation of what has been a contentious relationship between the talented young receiver and his organization.

Bryant was suspended the entire 2016 season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Since then, he’s found it difficult to fit in with the team’s offense. The former Clemson star has recorded 18 receptions for 234 yards in seven games this season.

Pittsburgh might not want to move Bryant, but the team can’t afford any more strife within the locker room. The longer this plays out prior to next week’s trade deadline, the more likely Bryant will in fact be moved.
