Updated: Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says Michael Gallup suffered torn ACL
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup entered the 2021 season with the hopes of proving himself as a legit starter with the veteran set to hit free agency in March.
Unfortunately, Gallup has dealt with an injury-plagued campaign. The former third-round pick from Colorado State missed eight games earlier this season with a calf injury.
Still unable to make a huge impact behind the likes of Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb on the Cowboys’ depth chart, Gallup did score his second touchdown of the season Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. It came via this 21-yard pass from Dak Prescott.
Unfortunately, Michael Gallup suffered an obvious knee injury while coming down with the ball. He was on the turf for a while holding his left knee.
In what can’t be considered a good sign, Gallup was almost immediately ruled out for the remainder of the game.
- Michael Gallup stats: 32 receptions, 409 yards, one touchdown (heading into Week 17)
This comes on the heels of Gallup recording 125 receptions for 1,950 yards and 11 touchdowns over the past two seasons. Obviously, this injury-plagued season is bad timing for the still-young 25-year-old Georgia native.
As for the Cowboys, they are still battling for the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage in the playoffs. Prescott’s touchdown to Gallup represented their first score of the game with Dallas finding itself down 13-7 at the half.
