Karl-Anthony Towns gives Jimmy Butler his flowers, thanks him for playoff run

Karl-Anthony Towns

Ever since Jimmy Butler demanded a trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves, the relationship between Karl-Anthony Towns and Jimmy Buckets hasn’t been great. It’s created several viral moments. Whether we go all the way back to the famous practice in which Butler reportedly dominated KAT’s squad despite not having key contributors on his side, or to the time when Towns told Butler to “call Rachel Nichols“.

There have been several public displays of the two sharing their distaste for one another. Which is why it was so surprising to hear KAT’s comments about Butler, in which he’s actually praising the All-NBA defender.

Here’s the clip.

In the clip, Towns can be heard thanking Butler for their playoff run, saying he appreciates him. KAT goes on to mention that, while they didn’t see eye to eye, they got the job done on the court, giving the Wolves a chance to make the playoffs. The 2017-18 season is still the only year of KAT’s seven-year career where he made the postseason.

Karl-Anthony Towns is maturing, in a way

Maybe Towns is sick of trying to continue this unnecessary public beef. We’ve seen KAT mature a lot over the years, this could simply be another example.

Though I will note, Towns seems a bit drunk, or something in the video. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it certainly could have affected his emotions at the time. Either way, if these are the true feelings of Towns, it’s nice to hear. Much better than trying to continue holding grudges over something that happened years ago.

At the end of the day, both Towns and Butler are some of the best in the NBA at what they offer. Towns is one of, if not the best shooting big-man in the Association and Butler is a two-way star, defending at the highest level while being able to come through when his team needs him most. Together, who knows what they could have accomplished?

Now we’ll never know, but at least there seems to be some mending of the fences, on KAT’s side. Your move, Jimmy.
