Former Philadelphia Eagles star blasts coaching staff for usage in Super Bowl

Former Philadelphia Eagles star Miles Sanders was not happy about how he was used during February’s Super Bowl and made it public knowledge during a recent practice with his new team.

Veteran running back Miles Sanders had a career year for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022. He hit highs in games, rushes, yards, yards per game, and rushing touchdowns. His outstanding play helped to make their offense one of the most formidable in the sport and earned him his first Pro Bowl honors.

Sanders was pivotal in the Philadelphia Eagles having the best record in the league and reaching the Super Bowl in February. Yet, in one of the biggest games in franchise history, the coaching staff surprisingly went away from their star running back and relied heavily instead on quarterback Jalen Hurts.

In the big game, Sanders received a season-low seven attempts and only tallied 16 yards in a game that featured over 70 points scored. It was a surprisingly low usage amount for such a talented player, and one has to wonder if things could have been different after the Philadelphia Eagles fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 38-35 in the NFL title game.

Well, it is something Sanders still wonders about in frustration to this day. The 26-year-old is no longer with the Eagles after cashing in on his productive season by signing a lucrative contract with the Carolina Panthers in free agency. But he was recently asked about his limited use in the Super Bowl and he held nothing back in his response.

“Last game of the season? For all of the marbles? Everybody can answer that question. If they put themselves in my shoes, would they be happy? I don’t want to make headlines, [but] if it does, I don’t care.”

The Philadelphia Eagles replaced Sanders in the offseason with former Detroit Lions back D’Andre Swift. A player that offers a more versatile option out of the backfield.
