Huge Deebo Samuel injury update for San Francisco 49ers ahead of NFC Championship Game

San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Deebo Samuel suffered a shoulder injury in the first half of last week’s NFC Divisional Playoff win over the Green Bay Packers.

Samuel did not return to action after exiting. He was initially evaluated for a concussion before being ruled out shortly thereafter.

Despite Samuel’s absense, the 49ers were able to come out on top as Brock Purdy led a fourth quarter comeback to punch their ticket to Sunday’s NFC Championship Game against the Detroit Lions.

We now have more information on Samuel’s injury. It should provide cautious optimism, especially considering earlier reports on Samuel’s injury.

“49ers consider it “50-50” as to whether wide receiver Deebo Samuel will be able to play in Sunday night’s NFC championship game vs. the Lions due to the shoulder injury he suffered vs. the Packers, per source.”

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport noted earlier on Monday that there is no fracture to Samuel’s injury, adding another layer to the belief that he could suit up against the Lions in Santa Clara Sunday afternoon.

Samuel’s presence would be a huge boon for 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy who has struggled without his offensive weapon in the mix.

In the two games that Samuel missed during the regular season, Purdy threw four touchdowns against five interceptions for a 72.4 QB rating. In the 15 games he suited up in, Purdy tossed 28 touchdowns compared to six interceptions for a 121.7 QB rating. That’s not a coincidence.
