In the aftermath of the scary injury to Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin on Monday night, those around the NFL community took to his GoFundMe page for a toy drive to donate in large numbers.
The page was initially set up when Hamlin was in college to help children impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. As of Wednesday morning, it had received more than $5.5 million in donations.
With an initial goal of just $2,500 when Hamlin first set it up, this outpouring of support from the NFL world has been eye-opening. NFL greats like Tom Brady, Russell Wilson, and the Commanders’ organization have all chipped in.
As for the charity, it’s called The Chasing M’s Foundation Community Toy Drive. The bio said Hamlin’s mission is to help those struggling the most in society.
“As I embark on my journey to the NFL, I will never forget where I come from and I am committed to using my platform to positively impact the community that raised me. I created The Chasing M’s Foundation as a vehicle that will allow me to deliver that impact, and the first program is the 2020 Community Toy Drive.”
