Before the 2023 NFL season began, no one really knew what to expect from Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Predictions were all over the place, from the Bucs either finishing in dead last, to them winning the NFC South.

Of course, now, we know Mayfield experienced a career resurgence, with the Buccaneers snatching the division crown for the third year in a row. But not even the Buccaneers likely saw Mayfield’s impressive season coming, otherwise they would have signed him to more than just a one-year contract. Or, maybe that was all Mayfield’s idea.

Either way, with the former No. 1 overall pick now set for free agency, Mayfield’s on track to at least triple his 2023 salary of $4 million this offseason. One of the best free agent quarterbacks available, Mayfield will have a large market for his services, but what does he want to do?

After having what could be considered a career year by doubling his career playoff win total, Baker Mayfield is set for a big raise. But will it come from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, or one of the other many QB-needy teams desperate for improvement? It’s a question every Bucs fan wants to know, and apparently that extends to former players too.

Earlier this week when Mayfield was making an appearance on the Up & Adams show, cameras may have caught a bit of a ‘hot mic’ moment between the current Buccaneers QB and former Tampa Bay player Steve Young.

Admittedly, it’s very difficult to hear over Rob Gronkowski’s loud voice, but after listening several times, we do believe Mayfield comments about getting some pieces back and ” settling in there and making a career.” Naturally, we’re taking these comments to believe he’s speaking about a return to Tampa Bay.

Meanwhile, host Kay Adams is frantically trying to get the attention of her producers to cut the film thanks to the fascinating conversation happening just behind her. Here’s the clip.
