Who will win the World Series? Top picks based on World Series odds

Los Angeles Dodgers – Favorite

The Dodgers have the best roster in MLB. We’ll start with a Dodgers lineup that features three NL MVP candidates – Shohei Ohtani Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman – sitting atop the bedding order. Behind the trio, Los Angeles boasts All-Star hitters Teoscar Hernandez and Will Smith with Max Muncy rounding out the top half of the lineup. As for the Dodgers rotation, Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto are NL Cy Young candidates while Tyler Glasnow and Roki Sasaki could be No. 1 starters for multiple teams. Los Angeles has outstanding pitching depth to support its rotation through injuries and the best bullpen in baseball. It would be a major surprise if the Dodgers aren’t in the World Series this year.

New York Yankees – Bust

The New York Yankees roster was decimated by injuries in spring training. It’s a shame because on paper, this team was better than the one that won the American League pennant in 2024. Unfortunately, Gerrit Cole (Tommy John surgery) is lost for the season and All-Star designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton (elbows) could also not play in 2025. New York won’t have reigning AL Rookie of the Year Luis Gil until the summer, which is a best-case scenario for his return. To make matters worse, New York has one of the worst MLB farm systems in 2025 which makes trading for impact players far more challenging. New York simply doesn’t have a playoff-caliber rotation and it didn’t improve enough defensively this winter to overcome the early injuries. Quite frankly, the best bet might be on the Yankees missing the playoffs.

Boston Red Sox – Sleeper

The Boston Red Sox might already be the best team in the American League but they enter Opening Day with the ninth-highest World Series odds. Comparing Red Sox to the top AL competition, we would quite easily take Boston’s rotation over the Orioles’ injury-plagued pitching staff. The Red Sox lineup is one of the best in baseball and its bullpen is underrated. Plus, Boston’s farm system would allow the front office to swing an in-season trade for another All-Star to fortify the batting order or the front-line rotation. For whatever reason, the Red Sox are being slept on nationally but they would be our pick to win the AL pennant this season.

Arizona Diamondbacks – Darkhorse

Don’t sleep on the Arizona Diamondbacks. This team reached the World Series just two years ago and there’s an argument to be made the Diamondbacks roster is even better now. Thanks to the addition of Corbin Burnes, Arizona boasts a top-five pitching staff which includes bullpen depth for the first time in years. We’re also confident in the Diamondbacks lineup finishing top 10 in runs scored and OPS this season. It will be an uphill climb to overtake the Dodgers, but Arizona stands out as the obvious darkhorse pick based on its World Series odds being aligned with the likes of the Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Guardians.

World Series 2025 prediction: Dodgers over Red Sox in 5 games

We believe the two best MLB teams right now are the Red Sox and Dodgers. The Yankees’ injuries took them out of the running and the American League seems weaker on paper than it’s been in several years. Boston has more depth than before with the premium talent in the rotation (Garrett Crochet) and lineup (Alex Bregman) ti finally turn Boston back into an elite team. However, the Dodgers roster is superior and we believe it will lead to a gentleman’s sweep in the World Series.
