WATCH: St. Louis BattleHawks with first kickoff return for TD in XFL history

Joe Powell BattleHawks

The New York Giants and Buffalo Bills did not see enough from small-school product Joe Powell to warrant keeping the defensive back.

We’re now openly wondering whether another NFL team will come calling here soon.

Powell just returned a New York Guardians kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. It might be the best play we’ve seen thus far on the young XFL season.

It included a reverse and the first kickoff return for a touchdown in league history.

What’s amazing here is that it came on Powell’s father’s birthday.

But back to the return for a second. The Guardians were going all out on a return from St. Louis BattleHawks receiver Keith Mumphrey. They obviously were not ready for the reverse.

At the very least, this did enough for fans in St. Louis to stop booing Rams owner Stan Kroenke as the BattleHawks took a 12-3 lead.
