The targeting rule is as controversial as it has ever been, and on Saturday the Michigan Wolverines lost starting safety Josh Metellus in the first quarter due to the rule.
Metellus didn’t take a malicious hit against Alize Mack, but he definitely hit his head/neck area as he was defenseless after hauling in a 26-yard reception.

After a lengthy review, Metellus was ejected for targeting, which added another 15 yards to the play. Not long afterward, Michigan allowed its second touchdown of the game to fall into a 14-0 hole.
