WATCH: Eight-run first powers Boston Red Sox to rout of Toronto Blue Jays

Hunter Renfroe hit a grand slam in an eight-run first inning, Enrique Hernandez had two homers, a double and three RBIs and the visiting Boston Red Sox defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 13-4 Monday night in Buffalo.

Danny Santana added a solo home run and a two-run double and Jarren Duran hit a two-run homer for Boston in the opener of a three-game series.

Rafael Devers socked a solo homer and J.D. Martinez added four hits and a walk for the Red Sox.

Cavan Biggio hit a solo homer for the Blue Jays, who had a four-game winning streak end.

Boston starter Nick Pivetta (8-4) gave up four runs, 11 hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out four.

Toronto starter Ross Stripling (3-6) allowed six runs, four hits and two walks in one-third of an inning.

The Red Sox homered three times in the opening inning.

Duran hit a two-run shot for his first career major league home run in his third game. With one out, Renfroe connected for his 14th homer of the season and sixth career grand slam.

Anthony Kay replaced Stripling and gave up a homer to Hernandez after a single by Kevin Plawecki.

Devers hit his 23rd homer of the season, and Santana doubled home two runs to cap a three-run second.

Santana led off the fourth against Trevor Richards with his fourth homer of the season.

The Blue Jays sent 10 men to the plate in a four-run bottom of the fourth. Teoscar Hernandez had a run-scoring groundout, Randal Grichuk hit a sacrifice fly, Biggio belted his seventh homer of the season and Bo Bichette had an RBI infield single.

Hernandez homered against Tayler Saucedo, his 13th, in the sixth.

Santana was reinstated from the injured list before the game, and Boston put infielder Christian Arroyo (hamstring) on the IL.

Toronto put right-hander Alek Manoah (back) and right-hander Anthony Castro (ulnar nerve irritation) on the IL while infielder Breyvic Valera went on the family medical emergency list. Outfielder Jonathan Davis and right-hander Thomas Hatch were recalled from Triple-A Buffalo.
