Speculation growing that Tiger Woods will be ready for the start of the 2024 PGA Tour season

New rumors and a video seem to point toward Tiger Woods likely making his return to the PGA Tour early in the 2024 season.

It has been very difficult for Tiger Woods to be a consistent participant on the PGA Tour following a serious car accident two years ago. In the crash, he incurred injuries to his leg that made walking and competing at a high level difficult. However, the golf icon also being 47 years old certainly wasn’t helping either.

His 2023 campaign came to a surprising end after he withdrew from this year’s Masters Tournament when he failed to make the cut. Soon after, it was revealed that the 15-time major winner would be undergoing surgery to deal with arthritis that came from a previous fracture to one of the bones in his ankle.

“Tiger underwent a subtalar fusion procedure to address his post-traumatic arthritis from his previous talus fracture. It was performed by Dr. Martin O’Malley at HSS Sports Medicine Institute in New York City,” a statement from his representatives said at the time. “He has determined the surgery to be successful. Tiger is currently recovering and looks forward to beginning his rehabilitation.”

HopkinsMedicine.org describes a subtalar fusion as a procedure to “fuse the bones of your ankle into one piece.” The recovery times for such a surgery often take at least 10 to 12 weeks. With him well passed that timeline, many have wondered when Woods would try to get back on the green for serious PGA Tour action.

Well, it seems like it could come early in the 2024 season. Earlier this week, PGA veteran Stewart Cink claimed during a conversation with the Golf Channel that Woods revealed to him that he is readying to jump back into competition in the near future.

“You don’t always get a whole lot out of Tiger Woods, but he said that he started practicing, which I think is a great sign,” said Cink. “I don’t know what he’s practicing for, but he said he started practicing. So that means he’s in go-mode for something, and I think we’re all pulling for him to feel as good as he can feel, and if he’s hitting golf balls, I think he’s going in the right direction.”

Next month, the golf legend will host the Hero World Challenge, and the 18-player event has announced all but one of its competitors, which is very interesting since Woods seems to be preparing for a return.

Then there is also the fact that a video went viral on X, formerly Twitter, this weekend of Woods serving as a caddy for his son Charlie at a recent event. The video spread quickly because Woods was surprisingly not limping as he walked the greens. A notable limp had become a staple of his gate at events following the car crash two years ago.

With the start of the PGA Tour season just a couple of months away, it sure seems like Tiger Woods is on a path to be available to compete early in the new year.
