A new report claims that the Los Angeles Chargers and Tennessee Titans are among the top contenders for recently released San Francisco 49ers star Arik Armstead.
The last few days have been eventful for both the Chargers and Titans. Tennessee made a major move on Monday when they replaced team legend Derrick Henry with Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard. As for the Chargers, rumors have suggested the organization could cut ties with several stars soon as they look to free up cap space and alter the roster for new head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Both organizations are sure to make some notable moves in the coming days, especially the Titans who have the most available cap space in the league with over $75 million left to spend in the open market (via Over The Cap).
- Arik Armstead stats (2023): 27 tackles, 13 QB hits, 5 sacks
- Arik Armstead contract: 5 years, $85 million ($40 million guaranteed) deal signed in 2020
On Wednesday, a pair of reports from The Athletic’s NFL insiders Dianna Russini and Matt Barrows claimed the two teams were contenders for Arik Armstead. The nine-year veteran is expected to officially be released today and Barrows suggested the Los Angeles Chargers are a team to “keep an eye” on when he hits the open market.
Russini reported that Tennessee Titans “general manager Ran Carthon knows Armstead from his days in San Francisco.”
Last week it was reported that Armstead would be a cap casualty as the team looked to shed the the $28.3 million he was set to make in 2024 and get under the salary cap. The 30-year-old has been a core member of the defense for nearly a decade and part of a great combination on the defensive line with star Nick Bosa.
He peaked with 10 sacks in 2019 but has posted only 11 sacks in 38 games played over the last three seasons.
