New Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani has $700 million reasons to be happy after signing a record-breaking contract with the team earlier this month.
He’s also out several thousands of dollars because the reigning American League MVP really wanted to keep his No. 17 jersey.
After a social media campaign, Ohtani opted to gift the wife of Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly a Porsche for that jersey number.
The video of Ashley Kelly receiving the luxury car is all sorts of awesome.
This is some wholesome stuff right here. It’s not like Kelly and his wife are wanting for anything. He re-signed on a one-year, $8 million contract earlier in December. Some quick research shows that Kelly, 35, has earned a cool $48 million throughout his career.
Though, that doesn’t compare to the $70 million Ohtani is earning on an annual basis after the two-time AL MVP landed with the Dodgers in MLB free agency.
The interesting thing here is that $680 million of Shohei Ohtani’s contract is deferred. He’ll be earning a cool $68 million annually from 2034-2043.
