While San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has a long road to recovery from a tear in the UCL ligament of his right elbow, the 23-year-old has reportedly been able to avoid a more serious surgery and should be ready to roll in the summer for training camp.

The NFC Championship ended up being a nightmare day for the San Francisco 49ers. They entered the game on a 12-game win streak and their offense was flying high behind the impressive play of rookie QB Brock Purdy. Yet it wasn’t long before their season went down in flames early in the first quarter.

During a pass early in their game against the Eagles, Purdy’s elbow was injured on a swat from star pass rusher Haason Reddick. He left the field soon after and remained sideline until he returned late in the game to fill in for backup Josh Johnson after he was forced out with a concussion. However, Purdy’s throwing arm was still in bad shape and he couldn’t manage throws beyond 10 yards.

After the loss, it was revealed that the San Francisco 49ers signal-caller had torn his UCL and could be sidelined for at least six months. Well, fortunately for Brock Purdy it looks like his injury may not be as bad as originally feared.

San Francisco 49ers Brock Purdy set to have UCL surgery on Feb. 22

On Wednesday, NFL Network league insider Ian Rapoport gave an update on Purdy, and revealed the quarterback is set to have surgery on Feb. 22. Furthermore, the belief is he should be ready to compete by training camp this summer.

“The Texas Rangers’ team doctor is going to perform the repair. Not reconstruction, not Tommy John surgery, but the repair of the torn UCL for Brock Purdy. His timetable goes like this. After three months he has no throwing, and beyond three months he is allowed to throw. The expectations is he should be okay by the start of training camp and should be able to play by the start of the season if all goes well.”

NFL training camps are expected to kick off for the 2023 season on July 25, meaning Purdy could be slightly ahead of original estimates of needing at least six months to be 100% to return to the field.

That has to be a major relief for San Francisco 49ers fans, with the team banking on the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft being their day-one starting QB in the new season.
