Report: Tony Romo posted goodbye video with agreement Cowboys would cut him

We expected the decision to move on from Tony Romo would prove difficult for the Dallas Cowboys’ brass. After all, he has been the face of the franchise for over a decade. During that time, Romo set pretty much every franchise passing mark. It’s not easy to move on from someone of that ilk.

But at some point here soon, the Cowboys will have to part ways with their former Pro Bowl quarterback. Reports surfaced Wednesday that Romo was informed he would be released shortly after the start of free agency.

Then, as free agency itself came calling on Thursday, more reports surfaced indicating that Romo would likely be traded to the Houston Texans or Denver Broncos (more on that here).

In between all this, Romo himself took to Instagram to say his goodbyes to fans in Dallas (watch here).

It’s now being reported that said video was posted with the quarterback being under the assumption an agreement had been made for the Cowboys to release him.

As of Friday morning, Romo remains on the Cowboys.

This might not be as bad as the situation involving Kirk Cousins in Washington, but it surely leads us to believe something is happening behind the scenes.

The longstanding assumption has been that Dallas would put Romo in the best possible situation to contend moving forward. Whether that was trading him to a contending team or letting the veteran test the open market was left up for debate. This changed earlier in the week when the Cowboys informed Romo he would be released.

If that doesn’t happen here soon, one has to wonder how this whole thing is going to eventually play out.
