Report: Tony Romo to be released Thursday

Following up on a previous note, it now seems to be almost guaranteed that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will be released when the new league year starts on Thursday.

According to multiple media reports, Dallas has informed Romo that he will be released on Thursday.

This isn’t a surprise to anyone that has read about the Romo saga over the past several months. There was no real scenario that led to Romo returning to the Cowboys next season. The performance was saw from then rookie Dak Prescott under center in 2016 made this clear. Add in Romo’s cap hit of nearly $25 million for the 2017 season, and this was magnified even further.

Once Romo does hit the free-agent market, the expection is that he will draw serious interest from the Denver Broncos. Though, the Houston Texans also remain a potential landing spot.

Among the other teams said to be interested in the former Pro Bowler are the San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins.
