In need of someone to play behind Aaron Rodgers in the backfield, the Green Bay Packers have reportedly acquired running back Knile Davis from the Kansas City Chiefs.

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Davis has long been on the trade block after falling out of favor with Andy Reid and Co. in Kansas City last season. Davis, a third-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2013, has attempted exactly one rush this season. Davis’ best season came back in 2014 when the Texas product tallied 610 total yards and seven touchdowns.
For the Packers, this was a much-needed addition. Backup running back James Starks underwent knee surgery over the weekend and is expected to miss multiple weeks (more on that here).
In addition to this, it’s readily apparent that starter Eddie Lacy is nowhere near 100 percent. Lacy toughened it out last week against the Dallas Cowboys, but it was apparent that his ankle was bothering him big time. This forced wide receiver Ty Montgomery into the backfield to play running back at times.
With a Thursday game coming up against the Chicago Bears, Green Bay needed to add another body in a hurry. That’s only magnified by the fact that Lacy himself did not practice on Monday.
