Keenum is the first free agent quarterback to land a deal with a new team this year, though he’ll have to wait until the new league year begins on Wednesday to put ink to paper. This was a pairing that had been rumored to be possible, especially with reports that Cousins would be signing with the Minnesota Vikings.
Keenum is coming off a career year with the Minnesota Vikings. He replaced Sam Bradford early, going 11-3 as a starter while completing 67.6 percent of his passes for 3,547 yards with 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Signing Keenum won’t keep Denver out of the running to draft a quarterback at No. 5 overall. However, John Elway has said Denver is open for business with that pick, and this gives him much more leeway to swing a deal.
