Report: Broncos could turn to Case Keenum if Kirk Cousins moves out of reach

Vikings quarterback Case Keenum

The Kirk Cousins sweepstakes is already sizzling, even though technically teams cannot talk about a contract at this time. It’s been reported that the New York Jets have really honed in on making him an offer he cannot refuse, and recently the Minnesota Vikings have been talked about as the likeliest destination for the free agent quarterback.

One team that absolutely would love to land Cousins but that could find itself on the outside looking in is the Denver Broncos. If that does happen, then Case Keenum could be the guy they could target instead, per Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

This makes a ton of sense, especially if you consider Denver is likely also going to draft a quarterback this April. John Elway recently made it clear he’s not done swinging for the fences when it comes to draft picks, and he’s known for being very aggressive about getting what he wants.

Keenum, of course, is coming off a career year with the Vikings. However, it seems the general consensus is that nobody’s convinced he’s going to be able to replicate his 2017 campaign again, especially with Pat Shurmur being the head coach of the New York Giants now. With that in mind, Denver could save some money by signing Keenum to a more reasonable contract that it’ll take to land Cousins.

Free agency is going to be crazy this year. We cannot wait to see what happens when the dominoes start to fall.
