Philadelphia Eagles news: The Philadelphia Eagles came into the season confident Doug Pederson and Carson Wentz would lead this team back as an NFC powerhouse. Instead, heading into Week 13, big changes could be looming this offseason.

Despite the NFC East being the worst division in the NFL, with the winner likely to be a five-win team, the Eagles are slipping further down the standings. With the offense largely responsible for the team’s struggle, mounting pressure could lead to a move no one expected when the season began.

NFL coaches fired: Latest news, rumors on league’s coaching hot seat

Philadelphia Eagles news: Doug Pederson’s future with team in doubt

Entering Sunday’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia is searching for answer to solve its woes on offense. After blaming the team’s struggles on injuries and the offensive line early in the season, the heat is now turned up on Doug Pederson.

The Eagles are averaging just 322.5 total yards per game, the fifth-lowest mark in the NFL. If being outgained by the likes of the Denver Broncos and Washington Football Team wasn’t enough, Philadelphia (21.5) also ranks behind the Detroit Lions (22.9) and Dallas Cowboys (25.8) in points per game.

Philadelphia Eagles news: Doug Pederson makes big changes on offense

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Pederson is firmly on the hot seat just three years after winning Super Bowl LII.

Following the Monday Night Football loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Pederson met with team leaders to discuss everything going on this season. Among the issues addressed, a lack of accountability and message stressing the urgency of turning things around.

Pederson reportedly didn’t receive any assurances from team owner Jeffrey Lurie regarding his future and there’s reportedly a reason behind that. According to Rapoport, Lurie is very frustrated with the team’s performance, both during games and at practice.

If things don’t turn around soon, Pederson could find himself out of a job. The pressure has intensified in recent weeks and Pederson’s strong commitment to Carson Wentz might be part of the problem.

Philadelphia Eagles news: Carson Wentz stats and Pederson’s commitment to him

Wentz enters Sunday’s game as the worst quarterback in the NFL this season. He leads the league in interceptions (15), sacks (46) and has the lowest QBR (49.6) among quarterbacks with 10-plus starts.

Fans have wanted to see Jalen Hurts more at quarterback after the Eagles selected him with a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Following reports that the rookie quarterback would see an expanded role in Week 12, he played only two snaps.

Sitting at 3-7-1, Pederson is running out of time. If the Eagles lose to the Packers, with the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals on deck in Week 14 and Week 15, Lurie might be forced to make a change.
