Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts oddly avoids giving update on his ongoing knee injury

On Wednesday, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts did little to quiet the questions about the health of his knee after rumors about issues with it arose after NFL Week 7.

Jalen Hurts is off to another Pro Bowl-level start in 2023 and he has been a huge influence on the Eagles’ league-leading 7-1 record. However, while there is a lot to be happy about when it comes to the team this season, there are concerns about whether the young QB will be able to hold up long enough to guide the team back to the Super Bowl early next year.

Following the team’s impressive win over the Miami Dolphins two weeks ago, reports came out that Hurts was limping noticeably when heading to the locker room after the game. After that report, the team revealed that the limp was due to a knee issue he had been dealing with for some time. However, they did not believe it would lead to him missing time.

Nevertheless, Philadelphia reporters have been diligent about updates on the issue since the 25-year-old was an MVP candidate in 2022 due to his legs being a massive part of his elusiveness and ability to rush for over 700 yards as a QB the last two seasons.

During his Wednesday press conference, a member of the Eagles media asked if there was any new information on the health of his knee. A question Hurts could have easily shrugged off by noting that he was fine and ready for the team’s Week 9 clash with rivals the Dallas Cowboys. However, he did the exact opposite.

Hurts responded to the inquiry with a smile, sigh, and a head shake, then immediately walked out of the press conference. The decision did little to quiet questions about his knee and probably will only intensify them.

  • Jalen Hurts stats (2023): 2,420 total yards, 19 total TDs, 8 INTs, 94.3 rating

Over the first eight games of the season, Jalen Hurts has run for just 280 yards and is averaging a career-low 3.6 yards per carry. Which is two yards lower than his career best in 2021, and a yard behind his average in 2022.
