Packers president confirms team is working on Aaron Rodgers contract extension

Where did Aaron Rodgers rank among the top 100 NFL players heading into 2017?

Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy has confirmed that the franchise is working on a contract extension for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, per ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.

Previously, it was reported that the two sides are working on a deal that would make Rodgers the highest-paid player in the NFL. Murphy told ESPN that progress has been made on a new deal, and that new general manager Brian Gutekunst, along with executive vice president/director of football operations Russ Ball have been involved in the talks.

“We’ve had discussions with his representative,” Murphy said at the NFL scouting combine. “I have a lot of confidence in Brian and Russ and Aaron as well. We want to create a win-win.”

Obviously, Rodgers is a player the Packers need to keep happy. On his current deal, he’s due to make around $20 million in 2018 and 2019, which is well below the market Jimmy Garoppolo and Matthew Stafford recently set.

When healthy, Rodgers is arguably the NFL’s top passer. He finished the season with 1,675 yards and 16 touchdowns. And his value to the Packers organization was clearly evident last year, as Green Bay went into the tank once Rodgers was injured.
