The San Francisco 49ers just made quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo the highest-paid player in the league. Garoppolo has now surpassed Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford who previously held this honor.
The deal comes in at $137.5 million over five seasons.
The 49ers and QB Jimmy Garoppolo have agreed to a five-year, $137.5 million contract, source says. The biggest deal in NFL history on a average-per-year basis.

Garoppolo has a total of seven career starts and a 7-0 record during that span. And, now he will average a salary of $27.5 million per year.
Obviously, the Twitter world has plenty to say about this breaking news.
With his new $137.5 million contract and 7 career wins as a starter under his belt, Jimmy Garoppolo has technically been paid over $19 million per win. ? pic.twitter.com/emfLE0ivyE

Garoppolo to average $27.5M in annual salary over the next five years.
Tom Brady to make $14M in base salary in 2018.

If the Garoppolo numbers are accurate, that's ridiculous. What is Tom Brady worth? Aaron Rodgers? Especially with a salary cap. How are they going to pay for a line? A defense?

Mark my words, one day Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo will team up to make an Uggs commercial and it will be glorious.

Garoppolo has a "handsome" clause in his contract, where he agrees to maintain his hollywood looks, perfect hair and winks at the camera at least once per game.

You're telling me Jimmy Garoppolo is the highest paid player in the NFL but Colin Kaepernick doesn't have a job? Okay.

What about 2023 when Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch and now Jimmy Garoppolo's contracts all expire? ?

Cavs trade half their roster basically. Jimmy Garoppolo is now the highest paid QB in the NFL. Life truly is a wonder.

Jimmy Garoppolo gets a nine-digit extension while Colin Kaepernick is unemployed. I'd rather have Jimmy G, but he really wasn't much better than Kaep was in 2016. Just goes to show you how powerful the smear campaign is.

On the plus side, Jimmy Garoppolo can afford to rent an apartment in San Francisco now.
