The Ohio State University has handed out its punishment to head football coach Urban Meyer after he allegedly covered up an abuse scandal surrounding former assistant Zach Smith.
The punishment? Meyer will be suspended without pay for the first three games of the 2018 season.
Here’s the statement from officials in Columbus.

As you can tell, athletic director Gene Smith also received a slap on the wrist.
For many, these punishments don’t go far enough. In calling out both Meyer and Smith for their handling of the situation, Ohio State is pretty much admitting that each one had knowledge of the abuse and did nothing to change the culture.
Some former members of the program have called for severe punishments. One even went as far to say that Meyer should be fired.
Obviously, the administration in Columbus had other ideas.
