The search for the next Los Angeles Lakers head coach may soon be coming to an end.
According to TNT’s Chris Haynes, he’d be “very surprised” if JJ Redick isn’t hired as the Lakers coach this summer.
“I will be very surprised if their next Head Coach is anybody but JJ Redick. Everything that I’m hearing is JJ Redick. From what I know he’s doing some background, calling some assistant coaching candidates who might be able to join his staff.”

Meanwhile, if Redick is actually hired, the Lakers will undoubtedly face more scrutiny from some suggesting the front office hired LeBron James’ friend as head coach. It’s worth noting that the two share a podcast titled Mind the Game.
Yet, there’s no guarantee LeBron sticks with the Lakers this offseason, and his agent has already said his client will be a free agent. But just because Redick has no previous coaching experience, it doesn’t mean the former 3-point specialist can’t be an effective solution for the Lakers. Jason Kidd didn’t have any coaching experience before taking over the Brooklyn Nets in 2013, but now his Mavericks are just one win away from a Finals appearance.
Redick may be an unconventional hire, especially for a Lakers team with NBA Championship expectations, but that doesn’t mean he can’t get the job done.
