New York Jets and Miami Dolphins ‘doing homework’ on 4-time Pro Bowler free agent

The New York Jets and Miami Dolphins will continue their decades-long rivalry with a pair of matchups in 2023, however, they could be battling it out over the next couple of weeks for arguably the best player left in NFL free agency.

Things should be very interesting in the AFC East this season. Of course, the Buffalo Bills will again be a powerhouse team and seen as a potential Super Bowl contender, but they will get much more competition inside the division than in years past.

Assuming quarterback Tua Tagovailoa can stay healthy, the Miami Dolphins offense should again make them a threat in the division. However, the New York Jets are expected to take a major leap forward after adding offensive weapons like league legend Aaron Rodgers and Allen Lazard in the offseason.

While both teams’ offenses are on pretty good footing heading into the summer, it seems that both organizations may be looking at adding a major weapon before the start of training camps in July.

While many of the top free agents from March are off the market, earlier this month the Minnesota Vikings cut running back Dalvin Cook and placed a four-time Pro Bowler, including in 2022, on the free agent market.

On Thursday, ESPN NFL insider Diana Russini reported during a new edition of “NFL Live” what many expected, and that is the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins are supposedly two of several teams that are “doing homework” on the possibility of signing Dalvin Cook.

The Miami Dolphins have been linked to Cook since rumors of him being traded began in the spring. He would make a great fit since the team has lacked an impact running back for several years.

When it comes to the New York Jets, they have a solid back in 2022 rookie Breece Hall, however, he is returning from tearing his ACL last season. Adding Cook would seem like another move as they go all in to win their first Super Bowl in over 50 years this season.

On a Wednesday edition of the Pat McAfee show, NFL Media league insider Adam Schefter also added to a potential signing by claiming the Jets targeting Cook would “make sense” for the team.
