New York Giants reportedly mocked openly at Senior Bowl in conversation about 2 major recent decisions

A new report reveals that at this year’s Senior Bowl, many NFL personally openly wondered “What is going on with the New York Giants?’’

This has not been a great offseason so far for the Giants. This is the opposite of what they needed after a disappointing 6-11 finish to the 2023-24 season. They lost their defensive coordinator after he resigned and stormed out of the facility in frustration, and the organization has been dogged by stories of brewing drama between head coach Brian Daboll and his staff.

The situation has apparently left some around the NFL confused by the direction the team is going especially with reports the organization intends to have Daniel Jones be their starting quarterback again in 2024. On Wednesday, New York Post NFL insider Paul Schwartz reported on the conversations among team executives, coaches, and scouts about the team at this year’s Senior Bowl — and it wasn’t flattering.

Some around the NFL ‘eye rolled’ at idea of New York Giants starting Daniel Jones in 2024

All indications are Jones will get to be the team’s starter again next season, and they are not expected to use a premium NFL Draft pick on one of the five talented signal callers coming out in April. It was a decision some were confused by at the Senior Bowl.

“There is plenty of doubt about the Giants’ plan to start Daniel Jones at quarterback to open the 2024 season, as long as his surgically repaired right knee is healed. The reaction to that plan is often eye rolls,” Schwartz wrote. “Interjections of ‘they have to draft a quarterback, right?’ punctuate any initial talk about the draft.”

When it comes to the Don “Wink” Martindale situation, the common opinion was that he handled his departure poorly. However, the hiring of Shane Bowen to replace him as defensive coordinator received an equally unimpressed response to the Jones news.

“The hiring of Shane Bowen from the Titans was met largely with shoulder shrugs,” wrote Schwartz.

Right now, the narrative around the New York Giants is not good. Fans can only hope they make some big moves in free agency or this year’s draft to build some momentum of positivity that they can bounce back in a big way in 2024.
