Before the 2020 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins were favored to land Cam Newton in free agency. Now a new team has emerged atop the board.
According to PointsBet (via The Action Network), Washington is now a distant sixth in the betting odds to land Newton in free agency. Here’s a look at how the odds are stacked days after the draft, with a surprise at the top.
- New England Patriots -190
- Jacksonville Jaguars +300
- Pittsburgh Steelers +750
- Denver Broncos +1000
- Chicago Bears +1100
- Washington Redskins +1500
- Las Vegas Raiders +1500
The reason it’s surprising that the Patriots are atop this list is that there has been absolutely no indication they are actually interested in signing Newton in free agency. In fact, Jeff Howe of The Athletic reported Monday that the team hasn’t “shown any interest” at all.
There’s no doubt that Newton playing for New England would be a ton of fun to watch unfold. Fans have expressed significant interest in that exact scenario unfolding.
However, at this time it sure seems like Bill Belichick is happy to see what Jarrett Stidham can do. So place your bets accordingly.
