New Cardinals coach wants Larry Fitzgerald to return

Larry Fitzgerald

We don’t yet know if Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald will play in 2018. But Steve Wilks, the team’s new coach, definitely wants to see it happen.

“I spoke with Larry. We had a very in-depth conversation. I enjoyed the conversation he and I had,” Wilks said, via Jeremy Bergman of NFL.com. “He did not express he was or wasn’t coming back but we would definitely love to have him back. He is a major part of our success past, present and future — first-ballot Hall of Famer so we definitely want him back.”

Fitzgerald had previously said that he’d wait until after the coach was hired to decide on retiring.

With Carson Palmer retiring and both Blaine Gabbert and Drew Stanton as free agents, the Cardinals are likely to have a new man under center in 2018. Logically, that has to be a factor for Fitzgerald, as well.

If the 2017 season is any indicator, Fitzgerald still has a lot in the tank. He was second in the league with 109 receptions for 1,156 yards with six touchdowns.
