With Vladimir Guerrero’s future with the Toronto Blue Jays as cloudy as ever, a new rumor suggests he is eyeing a specific team to take his talents to next offseason.
The Blue Jays did not make a bunch of splashy moves in MLB free agency or on the trade block as they would have liked to this offseason. But it has still been a productive last few months for the club, and they are certainly better now than they were a year ago.
During the winter, Toronto added elite defender Andres Gimenez. Slugger Anthony Santander, and future Hall-of-Famer Max Scherzer to their roster for 2025. While all the moves were met with positivity, the most important goal for the Blue Jays before the 2025 season began was to ink top star Vladimir Guerrero into a new long-term contract. But that pursuit looks to have failed.
This week, the four-time All-Star revealed that talks between his representatives and the team recently delivered no real progress. It now seemingly sets the stage for him to be the top player on the free agent market later this year since he does not want to deal with more contract talks over the next eight months.
While many teams have been linked to the young star in recent weeks, a new rumor claims there is one specific organization he would “love to play for” in 2026 and beyond. And it’s not the Toronto Blue Jays.
- Vladimir Guerrero Jr. stats (2024): .323 AVG, .396 OBP, .544 SLG, .940 OPS, 30 HR, 103 RBI, 98 R
Vladimir Guerrero wants to be on the Boston Red Sox in 2026?

“It’s no secret that Vladimir Guerrero has told friends that if he hits free agency, he’d love to play for the Boston Red Sox. Free agency begins in 8 1/2 months as Guerrero officially enters spring without a contract extension,” USA Today MLB insider Bob Nightengale wrote on X Tuesday.
The Boston Red Sox made some very nice moves this offseason. They had a solid roster in 2024, but over the winter added ace pitcher Garrett Crochet and two-time All-Star Walker Buehler. Then last week they gave Houston Astros great Alex Bregman a massive $120 million deal.
- Vladimir Guerero contract (Projection): 11 years, $400 million
Adding Guerrero to that mix next offseason could give Boston a serious World Series contender in 2026 and beyond.
