Los Angeles Angels star outfielder Mike Trout just can’t stay healthy. The three-time American League MVP has missed extensive time over the past few years, including all but 82 games in 2023 due to a hamate bone injury.
Off to a tremendous start to the 2024 campaign, Trout will now be sidelined for the foreseeable future.
Angels manager Perry Minasian announced on Tuesday that Trout will undergo surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. The procedure is scheduled for Friday and is not expected to be season-ending.
Trout played the entire Angels game this past Monday against the Philadelphia Phillies. But he started to experience soreness in the knee on Tuesday.
“It’s just frustrating, but we’ll get through it,” Trout told reporters in the clubhhouse on Tuesday ahead of the Angels’ game.

Mike Trout’s continued injury issues and the Los Angeles Angels
As noted above, Trout missed half of last season due to injury. He actually has not suited up in as many as 134 games since the 2019 season. He missed all but 36 games back in 2021 due to a groin injury. Trout was able to play in 119 games the next season, but also dealt with back issues.
One of the best players in modern MLB history, Trout has hit 378 homers throughout his career. He also boasts a solid .299 batting average.
The hope here is that Trout will be able to return at some point after the All-Star break. But given his recent injury issues, that is not a foregone conclusion.
