Miami Dolphins star rookie dealing with a knee injury, being evaluated after historic start

Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane has been on absolute first over the past three weeks. The rookie third-round pick from Texas A&M has tallied 518 total yards and seven touchdowns at a clip of 11.5 yards per touch during this span.

Unfortunately, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel broke some news in his day-after press conference after they defeated the New York Giants on Sunday. McDaniel noted that Achane is dealing with a knee injury and is being evaluated by the team’s medical staff.

“When I don’t know, I don’t spend any time forecasting either way,” McDaniel on De’Von Achane’s injury. “We’re just evaluating him. That’s part of the process.”

The fact that we’re hearing about this for the first time during a press conference has to, at the very least, be a bit concerning.

Achane ran the ball 11 times for 151 yards in Sunday’s win over the Giants. That included a 76-yard touchdown run.

The mid-round pick has been setting NFL records since missing the first game of the season due to injury. He’s the first player in NFL history to gain north of 100 rushing yards while averaging double-digit yards per rush in three consecutive games.

Achane also became the first player in the Super Bowl era to record seven total touchdowns in his first four career games. This is insane given that he touched the ball just two times in his regular-season debut Week 2 against the New England Patriots.

We obviously don’t have enough to go on when it comes to determining Achane’s status for next week against the Carolina Panthers. Updates will be provided.

For now, Raheem Mostert will likely continue to see a ton of touches. He’s gained 442 total yards with a league-leading eight touchdowns for the high-flying Miami Dolphins offensive attack.
