Las Vegas Raiders Pro Bowl wide receiver Hunter Renfrow has been seldom-used thus far this season two years after recording north of 100 receptions and 1,000-plus yards.
It has been a point of contention given that Vegas boasts the league’s 30th-ranked scoring offense through seven weeks and is going nowhere fast following last week’s blowout loss to the Chicago Bears.
We now have more information on Renfrow’s future with the Raiders. It could be limited to the next few days. NFL insider Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report indicates that there is a mutual agreement between Renfrow and the Raiders that a trade is the best outcome to their stalemate.
At issue here is a lack of perceived trade value when it comes to the former fifth-round pick out of Clemson. Sportsnaut’s Moe Moton touched on that a tad recently in a lengthy piece focusing on Renfrow’s current situation with the Raiders.
“The player on the trade block has to appeal to suitors with his production, contract or both. Renfrow situation isn’t attractive on either front,” Moton noted.
Renfrow, 27, has tallied just eight receptions for 73 yards on 12 targets this season. He’s played in more than 50% of the Raiders’ offensive snaps just twice during this span. Meanwhile, the Clemson product’s cap hit for next season is north of $13 million. Something would have to be worked out financially if a trade were to come to fruition.
Las Vegas Raiders likely to make Hunter Renfrow trade
The likeliest scenario here is that Vegas picks up a nice amount of Renfrow’s contract moving forward. This would enable the team to get something in return for him in terms of draft assets rather than likely releasing the veteran altogether.
There are a number of teams that would be interested in acquiring someone that tallied 103 receptions for 1,038 yards while recording an 80.5% catch rate back in 2021.
Among potential destinations, contenders such as the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions could have interest in Renfrow.
As for the Raiders, they sit at 3-4 on the season and will likely look to be sellers ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.
