Justin Jefferson joins Randy Moss in elite NFL company

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson made a key mistake in the first half of Thursday night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The all-everything receiver lost a fumble right at the goal line after hauling in a 30-yard pass from Kirk Cousins. The end result was a touchback and points being taken off the board. It represented Minnesota’s third turnover of the first half.

That’s the negative. On a positive note, this catch also saw Jefferson cross the 5,000-yard plateau for his career. He now joins former Vikings star and Hall of Famer Randy Moss as the only receiver in NFL history to reach that number prior to turning 25.

What’s amazing here is the fact that Jefferson just turned 24 back in June. He has the remainder of the 2023 season to add to this total.

Justin Jefferson continues to make NFL history

NFL: Minnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles

Last season saw Jefferson become the youngest player in league history to lead the NFL in receptions (128) and receiving yards (1,809). He’s also tallied the most receiving yards (4,825) for a receiver in his first three NFL seasons.

Considered by many to be GOAT, Jerry Rice amassed 3,575 yards in his first three seasons. As for Randy Moss, he tallied 4,163 yards in his first three seasons.

Jefferson’s accomplishment Thursday night comes after he put up nine receptions for 150 yards in the season opener. Yeah, the kid is good.
