Josh Allen is moving up the depth chart, at least temporarily. During practice Monday, the Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback worked “exclusively” with the second-team offense, according to Joe Buscaglia of WKBW, which is a first for him in training camp.

Interestingly, AJ McCarron worked with the first-string offense on Monday, while Nathan Peterman worked with the third-stringers.
Buscaglia wondered if this means that Allen will get his shot to work with the ones on Tuesday, given that Buffalo appears to be giving all three quarterbacks a shot to show what they can do at this point.
For what it’s worth, during the team’s first preseason game, Peterman had a fine start, McCarron was rock solid but did nothing really spectacular, while Allen showed some good stuff with his arm but also proved he’s as raw as they come on one of the worst plays we’ve ever seen from an NFL quarterback (watch here).
Allen has reportedly been sharp in practices. Recently general manager Brandon Beane hinted that the rookie would have a chance to work his way into the starting job if he showed the coaches he’s up for the challenge after the first preseason game.
So far, it seems like Allen is doing enough to give himself a chance to earn that job. It’s going to be fascinating to see how the Bills handle the quarterback competition from here on out.
