Week 5 will mark the first time Jonathan Taylor will be able to rejoin the Indianapolis Colts after being placed on the physically unable to perform list. On Wednesday, the Colts plan to open the 21-day practice window for their starting running back, giving him nearly three weeks to return to full health, but all indications are that he’s ready to go right now.
Yet, Taylor’s pending trade request still lingers, leaving questions about the All-Pro running back’s future in Indianapolis. The team’s reported asking price has come down, and several teams have reached out to express interest. But that doesn’t mean a trade is anywhere close.
According to Jay Glazer, there aren’t any current trade offers for the 2021 rushing leader. NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, add that there haven’t even been recent trade discussions for the 24-year-old tailback. Yet, one source close to the situation did indicate that multiple teams are still interested in not only acquiring Taylor but also signing the fourth-year pro to an extension.
Two teams who were previously linked, the Green Bay Packers and Miami Dolphins, are no longer interested in trading for Taylor. The Colts have until Week 8 to make a decision, whether to activate Taylor to the active roster or trade him to another team.
Taylor is in the final year of his rookie contract, and while the Colts have noted that they have no issues rewarding star talent, the two sides haven’t been able to find common ground at the negotiation table. Meanwhile, Taylor would like to get paid, thus the trade request. The Colts remain open to discussing a Taylor trade, but only for the right price.
