2-time Pro Bowl running back reportedly doing serious homework on potential move to Houston Texans

One of the best running backs on this year’s free agent market, Saquon Barkley, is allegedly seriously interested in relocating to the Houston Texans in the offseason.

There is no doubt the Houston Texans were the biggest surprise in the NFL last season. With a rookie quarterback and head coach leading the team, the expectations were fairly low, but they blew past that by winning the AFC South with a 10-7 record. Now, the projections for the team in 2024 will be much higher due to that success.

While the organization has never been known for throwing around huge contracts in free agency, the team has over $67 million in available cap space (via OverTheCap) and could make some impactful additions if they choose to. That is why they have been conected to several star free agents in recent weeks.

However, over the last few days, there have been some new interesting links between the Texans and two-time Pro Bowler Saquon Barkley when he surprisingly followed QB CJ Stroud, receivers Nico Collins and Tank Dell, running back Devin Singletary, and tight end Brevin Jordan on social media.

Quite a few players have done such things and claim it’s nothing more than following a fellow player they admire. Well, on Monday KPRC 2 Houston Texans insider Aaron Wilson suggested the New York Giants running back is actually doing some very real homework on the team ahead of a possible jump into NFL free agency.

“Saquon Barkley, it goes beyond him following guys on social media and hitting [the like button],” Wilson said. “It’s a case of him communicating with top players, including CJ Stroud, about a desire to play here. It is mutual, but they are keeping their options open at running back.”

The Giants have the right to slap their franchise tag on Barkley for a second straight year but all indications are that they will let him hit the open market next month.
