The intensity for this weekend’s Colorado vs. Colorado State game ticked up in a major way when State’s head coach suggested his opposite, Deion Sanders, has a style of communication that is disrespectful. A comment that “Coach Prime” has since responded to with his classic rah-rah charisma.

In just a matter of a couple of weeks, Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes have taken the college football world by storm. The hype was already massive for the NFL legend and his new team due to his boastful style that is tailor-made for headlines. However, his team has delivered on the field with a pair of emphatic wins to start the season.

It is why they have quickly flown up the Sportsnaut college football rankings and many football observers are circling their Week 4 clash with top-15 team Oregon as one of the biggest games of the early part of the season. However, before they face the Ducks on Sept. 23 they must play in-state rivals Colorado State. And on Wednesday head coach Jay Norvell gave his opponents some bulletin board material before the game.

Colorado State head coach takes surprising personal swipe at Deion Sanders

During an appearance on the “Ice Cold Sports” podcast this week, the 60-year-old coach took a shot at the Colorado Buffaloes leader by questioning how he presents himself when speaking with “grown-ups” on behalf of the program.

“I sat down with ESPN today — and I don’t care if they hear it in Boulder — I took my hat off, I took my glasses off and I told them when I talk to grown-ups I take my hate and my glasses off. That’s what my mother taught me.”

Those comments were sure to light a fire under the 56-year-old Sanders who also leads a team that includes his son, star quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Well, “Coach Prime” responded to those thoughts in classic fashion following the team’s practice on Thursday.

“I’m watching my own business, watching some film, trying to get ready, trying to be the best coach I can be and I look up and I read some bull junk that they’ve said about us. Why would you want to talk about us when we don’t talk about anybody? All we do is go out here, work our butts off, and do our jobs. But when they give us ammunition, they’ve gone and messed around and made it personal.”

The Colorado Buffaloes have a 67-22-2 all-time record against the Colorado State Rams. The Buffs have won the last five matchups in the “Rocky Mountain Showdown,” including the most recent game four years ago.
