Brian Goodwin belted a two-run homer in the 10th inning after the Chicago Cubs tied the game in the eighth on Andrew Romine’s three-run blast and the Chicago White Sox opened a three-game series against their crosstown rivals with an 8-6 victory at Wrigley Field on Friday.

Goodwin’s homer off rookie Manuel Rodriguez (0-2) scored Jose Abreu, who began the inning at second base as the automatic runner.

The White Sox added two more runs in the inning on RBI singles by Gavin Sheets and Tim Anderson.

Frank Schwindel hit a two-run homer off Garrett Crochet in the bottom of the 10th for the Cubs, who lost for the eighth time in their past 10 games.

Liam Hendriks (6-2) pitched a scoreless ninth inning as the White Sox snapped a two-game losing skid.

The White Sox took a 4-1 lead with two outs in the eighth on Cesar Hernandez’s 19th homer, a two-run blast off Kyle Ryan.

The Cubs pulled even in the bottom half of the inning on Romine’s two-out, three-run homer off Craig Kimbrel, who was traded from the Cubs to the White Sox on July 30.

Kimbrel had allowed only two earned runs in 39 1/3 innings this season before giving up Romine’s first home run since July 14, 2017.

Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks cruised through the first three innings before allowing RBI singles to Andrew Vaughn and Seby Zavala in the fourth.

Hendricks surrendered two runs on seven hits over six innings. He struck out seven and walked three.

White Sox starter Lance Lynn allowed one run on four hits with eight strikeouts over six-plus innings. He issued two walks while throwing 100 pitches.

Lynn was replaced by Michael Kopech after Romine began the seventh inning with a bunt single. The Cubs pushed across their first run when pinch hitter David Bote’s sacrifice fly scored Romine from third.

Adam Engel had three hits and two stolen bases for the White Sox, who have hit 49 home runs over the past 32 games.

Cubs outfielder Greg Deichmann made his major league debut and singled in the fourth inning for his first career hit.
