Arizona Diamondbacks part ways with hitting coaches

The Arizona Diamondbacks, who entered Thursday play ranked No. 23 in Major League Baseball in team batting average, fired hitting coach Darnell Coles and assistant hitting coach Eric Hinske.

The team named Triple-A Reno hitting coach Rick Short and run production coordinator Drew Hedman as co-hitting coaches.

The Diamondbacks are a major league worst 20-43. They will take a seven-game losing streak into Friday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels in Phoenix. The have lost 19 in a row on the road.

Short is in his first season as Reno’s hitting coach following two seasons in the same role for Double-A Jackson (2019-20).

Hedman is in his third season as the team’s run production coordinator where he assists the coaching staff with advance scouting process for hitters.
