The NFL season is far from over. In fact, many would argue it’s only just beginning, with the playoffs right around the corner. But for Al Michaels, his season really is over, as NBC won’t be including the legendary play-by-play broadcaster on their coverage team this postseason.
Yet, while football fans won’t get to hear Michaels covering the NFL for the rest of this season, the 79-year-old told USA Today’s Mike Freeman that he has no plans to retire. Instead, expect Michaels back for the 2024-25 NFL season, but after that? It’s anyone’s guess.
“I feel good. I feel healthy. I feel fine. I told Amazon that I’d do three years and next year will be three, and I’m definitely doing it. We’ll see after that. I still love this job. I still get a charge out of going into a stadium and watching the best in the world do what they do. I’m still really happy so that’s the big thing.”
Al Michaels on his broadcasting future
Michaels has just one year left on his contract with Amazon, and while he’s drawn some criticism, many others couldn’t care less about the ‘lack of excitement’ in the voice of a sports icon like Michaels.
