The acquisition of Brian Hoyer won’t deter the San Francisco 49ers from trying to further improve their quarterback situation. Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL Network reports that chatter surrounding Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins isn’t dead just yet.

There have been mixed reports on this front, however. One report from a prominent insider indicated a trade for Cousins was “unlikely” after Hoyer was signed (more on that here).
Additionally, Mike Jones, the Washington Post’s Redskins beat writer, has said the 49ers “seem content” to wait until 2018 to go after Washington’s quarterback. Doing so would save them picks and, potentially, money depending on Cousins’ performance this season.

An hour ago, it seemed like the 49ers’ quarterback situation was, at least temporarily, resolved. Turns out, temporarily means about 60 minutes, give or take.
With Washington’s organization in disarray (more on that here), it’s hard to see them working a deal in the near future. However, if the situation is resolved, perhaps we could see Cousins in Santa Clara this season after all.
