Lawyer: DeAndre Baker was playing ‘Madden’ at time of alleged armed robbery

New York Giants cornerback Deandre Baker

New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker pleaded not guilty to all eight counts levied against him due to an alleged armed robbery attempt.

Now one of his lawyers says there was no way his client could have done the alleged crime.

DeAndre Baker playing ‘Madden’ at time of armed robbery?

Speaking with the New York Post, Patrick Patel, one of Baker’s lawyers, says the young man was playing “Madden” when the crime allegedly took place.

“Far from an individual who’s going somewhere with an alleged intent to rob somebody, an armed robbery, to go there and hook up his ‘Madden’ game, play the game for over an hour and then leave it there and go home,’’ Patel told The Post on Tuesday.

After turning himself in over the weekend, Baker spent a night in jail. He then posted bond of $200,000 and apologized to the Giants for the “distractions” the arrest caused.

However, from the beginning, Baker has maintained his innocence. His lawyers have called the allegations against Baker a “shakedown” because he is a wealthy young man.

If he’s found guilty of the charges against him, Baker could face up to 60 years in prison.

Baker was a first-round pick out of Georgia during the 2019 NFL Draft. He played in all 16 games as a rookie last year, tallying 61 tackles.
